KUALA LUMPUR: National Moto2 rider, Hafizh Syahrin Abdullah is set to create history by becoming the first Malaysian to take part in the prestigious MotoGP World Championship, this season.

Monster Yamaha Tech 3 team has decided to give the Selangor-born a chance to impress them in the three-day testing event at the Chang International Circuit in Buriram, Thailand, starting tomorrow, according to the motorsports website; www.motorsports.com.

The French-based team are struggling to find a late replacement after their current rider, Jonas Folger of Germany decided to pull out from the team in the last minute due to health reason.

They had already tested Colombian rider, Yonny Hernandez during the recent MotoGP pre-season winter test at the Sepang International Circuit but were more impressed with Hafizh Syahrin’s capability to line up with another rider, Johann Zarco for full time.

Tech 3 team manager, Herve Poncharal said following the Sepang test, it was decided that Hafizh Syahrin would be a very good choice for the Monster Yamaha Tech 3 team,

Hafizh Syahrin, 23, who has four years experience in Moto2 and securing three podium finish, is hoping to do well in the three-day testing event.

“I’ll try to do my very best during these three days in Thailand.For me, it’s a dream come true to be able to ride a MotoGP machine.

“I have to admit, that I’m overly excited to get this chance. I hope I can be fast from the word go to show everybody what I’m capable of,” he added. -- Bernama
