Ev Ting

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s first One Championship title contender, Ev Ting is set take the cage on Feb 23 at One: Quest for Gold at the Thuwunna Indoor Stadium in Yangon.

Nicknamed E.T, Ev was last seen fighting at home in Kuala Lumpur against Japan’s Nobutatsu Suzuki where he recorded a win by way of technical knockout (TKO) in the first-round.

And after five months, he is on the MMA fight card again and this time around, he will face Ariel Sexton of Canada.

Sexton will step into the cage after being out of One’s competition since 2016 and will enter with a professional record of 11 wins and three losses to his name.

“Sexton is a veteran of the sport and plenty of experience. I am sure he will adapt to the ring well once the bell rings.

“However, I will definitely be pushing the pace to capitalise on any advantages that arise,” said Ev, who has a professional record of 14 wins and four losses.

The 28-year-old is a winner of four of his last five bouts over top-calibre opponents with his sole loss of the five being against Filipino Eduard Folayang as the latter retained his Lightweight World Championship title after winning on unanimous decision on home soil.

Following the loss, Ev, fighting and training out of New Zealand, has become a changed man.

“I have had a switch of mindset since the title fight and am now more focused on myself as well as the tasks at hand. I feel this bout is easily a worthy title contention bout.

“Preparation has been good, I spent the first four weeks working on conditioning and game planning through a lot of rounds of drilling in Auckland.

“I am feeling strong and confident. I cannot wait to test my skills against another true contender in the division,” said Ev who will fight in the lightweight division on the Myanmar fight card.

The main event will see One Middleweight World Champion Aung La N Sang of Myanmar fight against Brazil’s Alexandre Machado for the vacant One Light Heavyweight World Championship belt as Singapore’s Amir Khan and Timofey Nastyukhin of Russia battle in the co-main event.
