KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s Nicholas Fung won his maiden Asian Tour title after overcoming challenge from Thailand’s Jazz Janewattananond at the Queen’s Cup with a 15-under-par, playing to an aggregate of 269 in Koh Samui.
Fung, 26, collected US$90,000 (RM385,000) from the hefty US$500,000 (RM2,140,000) prize purse after he maintained his overnight lead to finish the closing round with a 67 through five birdies and one bogey.
Janewattananond played to an aggregate of 14-under-par 270 to finish in second, just one stroke ahead of Taiwan’s Hung Chien-Yao.
Malaysian Danny Chia tied ninth alongside South African Jbe Kruger at eight-under-par 276.
National number one, Gavin Green, shared 36th place with five other golfers after carding a four-day total of one-over-par 285.
The tournament in Asia will take place in Korea at the Shinhan Donghae Open on September 14-17, offering approximately US$1.06mil (RM4,304,000).
