PORT DICKSON: Negri Sembilan Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun has urged employers to give their workers time off to vote in the Port Dickson parliamentary by-election this Saturday.

He said employers need to be wise in arranging the time off in a staggered manner. This way their operations would not be disrupted too much and workers would also not be prevented from voting.

“I have also been in touch with representatives of the Hotel Association in Port Dickson to be given this flexibility and they have agreed to allow workers to vote. We hope there will be no restrictions, in fact the voting process will be further encouraged by the employer,” he told reporters when met here today.

Aminuddin also hoped that outstation voters could return to Port Dickson to fulfil their responsibilities.

The Port Dickson parliamentary seat was vacated by Datuk Danyal Balagopal Abdullah on Sept 12, to enable Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who recently won the PKR president’s post uncontested, to stand for election and return to the Dewan Rakyat.

The Election Commission has set the polling day for this Saturday.

The Port Dickson parliamentary constituency has 75,770 registered voters, comprising 43 per cent Malays, Chinese (33 per cent), Indians (22 per cent) and other races (two per cent). - Bernama
