KUALA LUMPUR: Organisers of the Pakatan Harapan-led rally ‘Sayangi Malaysia, Hapus Kleptokrasi’, which is planned for Saturday, Oct 14, claim they have obtained police approval for the event.
According to DAP Socialist Youth (Dapsy) National secretary Howard Lee Chuan How, the gathering is in accordance with the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.
“We have informed the authorities of our plans for Oct 14 and received no negative response from them. We don’t need to have a police permit.
“I believe that this event in Petaling Jaya, (which will begin at 4pm) can run smoothly, as we are not in breach of any law,” Lee said at a Pemuda Pakatan Harapan press conference on the rally here.
“The main event will start at 8pm and feature top leaders of the coalition giving speeches. (They include) Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad; PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali; and Pakatan Harapan and PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail,” he said.
Lee added that invitations to fifty non-government organisations have been sent and some, such as Bersih, the Bar Council and Pertubuhan Ikram Malaysia (Ikram) have responded positively.
He said that winners of a comic drawing contest, with the theme of “kleptocracy”, will be announced during the rally. The competition was judged by illustrator Zunar and Comic Museum director Hew Kuan Yew, and also based on Facebook likes.
Also present at the press conference today was Dapsy National chief Wong Kah Woh and PKR Youth chief Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.
