KUANTAN: The Pahang Department of Wildlife and National Parks is to send an officer to the Bukit Pelindung recreational area near Teluk Chempedak here to conduct a check following a social media viral report that a tiger was sighted there.
Its director, Ahmad Azhar Mohammed, said the department itself had not received any report that the animal was seen there.
“Someone may have seen a civet cat which, at a glance, resembles a tiger,” he said when contacted by Bernama today.
Ahmad Azhar advised people who had seen a tiger there to lodge a report with the department immediately.
He also said that people should not share information on social media unless they had verified it from the right sources.
Some time ago, a photograph was circulated on social media about a tiger spotted in Terengganu but it turned out that the picture was taken elsewhere, he said.
Ahmad Azhar said the department would announce any sighting of a wild animal in a public place to warn people of the danger. --Bernama
