KUBANG PASU: Pas had severed its ties with DAP after realising that it has been bullied by its former ally in Pakatan Rakyat to achieve their own political ambitions.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said that was the reason for Pas to turn its back on DAP because DAP was against the Islamic party’s principles in upholding and protecting the religious sanctity of Islam.

“Pas decided to sever its ties with DAP upon realising that it has been bullied by the party which was forcing others to accept their political struggles at the expense of their partners.

“Pas finally realised that they have been bullied by DAP to achieve its goals so that was why they left the opposition pact,” he said in addressing a crowd of 2,000 before breaking fast at Masjid Kampung Pering here this evening.

Also present were Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah, Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom, Deputy Finance Minister and Jerlun MP Datuk Othman Aziz, and Tenaga Nasional Bhd president and chief executive officer Datuk Seri Azman Mohd.

Najib added that Pas has turned to Umno because it acknowledged Umno’s struggles to uphold Islamic principles in running the government while looking after the welfare of the people, which is in line with the true Islamic teachings.

“Although we have different political ideologies, Pas and Umno are able to work together because they are convinced by our struggles in fighting for the interest of the ummah (Muslim community) and the religion,” he said.

Najib also ticked off the other Malay-based opposition party for willingly working with DAP despite knowing well the party’s principles.

“We (the Malays) know very well who is DAP but this party is working with DAP and bowing to them,” he said, without naming the party but it was understood that he was referring to Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM.

At the event, Najib also launched the eighth phase of the National Street Lights Project, spearheaded by the Rural and Regional Development Ministry in collaboration with TNB.

He said a total of 8,093 street lights were put up in 15 parliamentary constituencies in Kedah including 96 villagers in Jerlun.

He said the Federal government had allocated RM6.1mil in allocation for the latest phase in all over Kedah.
