PETALING JAYA: Local actor Sofi Jikan today pleaded not guilty at the Magistrate’s Court here today to using 11-nor-delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol-9-carboxylic acid (THC).
Sofi, whose real name is Mohamad Shoffi Jikan, 48, made the plea when the charge was read to him in front of Magistrate Nurulhuda Zakariya.
THC is usually formed in the body after cannabis is used.
The actor, who is known for his role in the hit movie ‘KL Gangster’ said, “I plead not guilty and asked to be put on trial.”
Sofi was accused of consuming THC at the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters narcotics department office at 11.15pm on Feb 6.
He was charged under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carries a jail term of up to two years or fine of up to RM5,000, if convicted.
The court granted a RM3,000 bail with one surety and fixed March 14 for mention.
Deputy public prosecutor Natasha Chin Le Jy prosecuted while Datuk Haniff Hassan represented Sofi.
Last Friday, Sofi was released on police bail after being remanded for three days following a police report lodged by fellow actor Datuk Farid Kamil, who had claimed that three artistes had spiked his drink.
Farid is currently out on bail after he was charged with assaulting a policeman and a member of the public at a police station in Kota Damansara.
