BESUT: Police have arrested five men, including three school dropouts, to assist investigations into motorcycle thefts cases in the district.

District police chief Superintendent Mohd Zamri Mohd Rowi said the suspects, aged between 15 and 32, were detained by a team of policemen at a house in Kampung Pengkalan Nyireh, here, during 'Ops Lejang' around 10.30am yesterday.

He said the raid was conducted by a special task force from Kampung Raja police station following a tip-off.

He said further investigations revealed that one of them, in his 20s, was not part of the gang and was later released.

He said the four, a 32-year-old man, two 17-year-olds and a 15-year-old confessed to stealing several motorcycles.

"Our men also seized two motorcycles, two motorcycle frames and dismantled parts from the scene," he said today.

He said the suspects claimed they bought the vehicles at RM800 from a man near the village.

"The motorcycles were being dismantled by the 32-year-old man and the components sold to customers," he added.

Zamri said the gang would take between three and four minutes to steal a motorcycle using a master key.

The case was being investigated under Section 379A of the Penal Code for motorcycle theft.
