KUALA LUMPUR: A Grab driver was nabbed less than 10 hours after he allegedly assaulted a teenage passenger over a misunderstanding, breaking her nose.
The 17-year-old female passenger had booked the e-hailing service for a trip from Berjaya Times Square here to Puchong Jaya yesterday.
However, during the ride, a fight ensued and the driver is believed to have struck her hard enough to break her nose.
Selangor police Criminal Investigation Department chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Fadzil Ahmat said police are still investigating the cause of the misunderstanding.
"Police arrested the 30-year-old man at 2.30am today to aid the probe," he said, adding that the man has been remanded until Wednesday.
Checks revealed that the driver has no criminal record.
The case is being investigated under Section 325 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt.
GrabCar and GrabTaxi Klang Valley head Wan Khye Theng said the company is investigating the case and will take action against the driver if necessary.
"We do not tolerate any act of physical violence or verbal abuse from both passengers and drivers.
"We would also like to urge both parties to remain courteous and calm throughout their ride and in the event of any incident, please do not hesitate to contact our customer service or use the SOS button in the passenger app or the police's button in the driver app." he said in a statement.
