KUCHING: A man with 18 drug abuse records and a female school dropout were among five people arrested with more than RM7,000 worth of syabu and ecstasy pills on Wednesday.

The 54-year-old man and the four suspects, all unemployed, were arrested at three locations in a day-long police crackdown on drug-related activities.

The man and two female suspects including the school dropout, 17, were arrested when police raided a room of a hotel in Jalan Padungan here at 9.45am.

Kuching district police chief Assistant Commissioner Abang Ahmad Abang Julai said the raiding party found 18 small packets containing crystal-like substances, believed to be methamphetamine, weighing 11.79g, from the trio.

"Urine tests conducted on the man, who has 18 drug-related cases, showed he tested positive for syabu.

"The same test conducted on the female suspects turned out negative.

"However, checks showed show one of the female suspects, 27, has six drug-abuse records," he said.

About 15 minutes before the first raid, police arrested a man, 36, at a hotel also located in Jalan Padungan.

Police seized syabu worth more than RM5,000 and four ecstasy pills from the suspect, who has three records related to drug abuse offences.

The fifth suspect, a 30-year-old man, was arrested with 10 straw tubes of about one gram of syabu at an abandoned house in Jalan Astana about two hours later.

Ahmad said all suspects were arrested under Section 39(A) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug possession.
