CONSIDERING the number of awards she has won for her mesmerising vocals, it’s puzzling why Dayang Nurfaizah has yet to hold her own solo concert.

Her recording label, Indigital Sdn Bhd, did plan for it to take place some time this year, but the only roadblock now is the lack of sponsors.

“I will be happy if there is a kind soul out there who’d like to sponsor,” said Dayang wistfully at the launch of her self-titled latest album and showcase at Malaysia Tourism Centre, Jalan Ampang, on Tuesday.

“After all, it’s every artiste’s dream to have his or her own solo concert.

“I hope mine will come true very soon.”

Despite being unable to perform in a large-scale show, the singer proved that her popularity is no joke when 2,000 copies of her latest album were sold in
four days since its launch on April 15.

Currently in its third print (of another 1,000 copies), the new record, her eighth studio album, is the only Malay language record trending on iTunes, and among the top 10 most downloaded albums on iTunes Malaysia.

“I’m happy with the feedback so far.

“It feels like all the hard work put into this album has been worth it and appreciated.

“Hopefully, this is a good sign,” she said.

The Kuching-born Dayang’s last album was Sayang & Cahaya (2011). Dayang said she did not feel that she took a long time to come out with a new album.

“Perhaps it’s because within these six years, I came out with a live album (Anuar & Dayang in 2013) and several singles.

“I’ve kept myself busy, thankfully,” said the 35-year-old artiste.

The new album comprises seven new tracks as well as her previously-released singles, including Di Pintu Syurga, Tak Pernah Menyerah and the recent Anugerah Juara Lagu 31’s Best Song, Lelaki Teragung.

Dayang, who won Best Vocal at the AJL for three consecutive years since 2015, will begin promotion on the latest single from the album, Separuh Mati Ku Bercinta, composed, written and produced by award-winning singer-composer Mohd Faizal Maas or Ajai.

Ajai last worked with Dayang in 2000 for her breakout hit, Seandainya Masih Ada Cinta.

Dayang said her latest record was a gift to her fans, who had been supporting her since day one.

“My fans always insist that I have more ballad tunes. So, here they are... all 10 tracks of ballads,” said Dayang jokingly.

As part of the album launch, Dayang performed all 10 tracks, plus four of her previous hits.

“I’m actually nervous about what my fans will think of my new songs.

“I know that I still have a lot to learn. I hope my fans will continue to support me.”
