MAZDA Malaysia Sdn Bhd has rolled out the all-new Mazda CX-5 sport utility vehicle (SUV) at its Kulim plant.
The locally-assembled Mazda CX-5 comes in five variants, consisting of the 2.0-litre GL SkyActiv-G, 2.0-litre GLS SkyActiv-G, 2.5-litre GLS SkyActiv-G, 2.2-litre GLS SkyActiv-D 2WD and 2.2-litre GLS SkyActiv-D AWD.
They are priced at RM134,605, RM148,605, RM160,996, RM164,579 and RM175,179, respectively. All prices are excluding insurance but inclusive of the six per cent Goods and Services Tax. Prices are for vehicles finished in solid paint. As for the metallic paint, an additional RM400 will be charged.
The premium metallic colours - Soul Red Crystal, Machine Grey, and Snowflake Pearl White will cost an extra RM2,000.
All three engines featured in the predecessors are carried over. The engines available are the SkyActiv-G 2.0-litre DOHC 16-valve four-cylinder with VVT petrol engine which has an output of 162hp at 6,000rpm and 210Nm of torque at 4,000rpm.
There is also the SkyActiv-G 2.5-litre DOHC 16-valve four-cylinder with VVT petrol engine that produces 192hp at 6,000rpm and 257 of torque at 3,250rpm.
Lastly, the SkyActiv-D 2.2-litre DOHC 16-litre four-cylinder Diesel engine that churns out 173hp at 4,500rpm and 420Nm of torque at 2,000rpm is also available in the all-new CX-5.
All the engine options available are mated to the SkyActiv Drive six-speed automatic transmission with manual shift mode.
The all-new Mazda CX-5’s exterior looks more sporty and dynamic due to its redesigned grille, headlamps and tail lights, as well as alloy wheels. It measures 4,550mm in length, 1,840mm in width, 1,675mm in height and with a wheelbase of 2,700mm.
It has a 442 litres of boot space and 56 litres of fuel tank capacity, except for the 2.2-litre GLS SkyActiv-D AWD variant which has 58 litres of fuel tank capacity.
The 2.0-litre GL SkyActiv-G variant comes with projector headlights and LED daytime running lights, bulb-type front fog lamps, bulb-type taillights, 17-inch wheels, manual adjusted front seats, dual-zone climate control, rear air vents, keyless start, rear USB charging ports, gunmetal trim, fabric upholstery, MZD Connect infotainment system, six speaker sound system, seven-inch touchscreen and commander control.
A step forward is the 2.0-litre GLS SkyActiv-G. It has the LED front frog lamps, LED tail lights, powered adjusted driver seat, leather upholstery, adaptive front lighting system, metal and wood trim, walk away lock and keyless entry.
The 2.5-litre GLS SkyActiv-G and the two diesel variants have the larger 19-inch alloy wheels.
Concurrently, both diesel variants are equipped with the full colour 4.6-inch instrument cluster display.
As for the safety aspects of the all-new CX-5, all variants come with six airbags, anti-lock braking system, electronic brake distribution, brake assist, dynamic stability control, traction control, Isofix child seat mounting points, G-Vectoring control and rear parking sensors.
Both the petrol 2.0-litre and 2.5-litre GLS variants gets the i-Activsense suite that has technologies like the blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, forward smart city brake support and four front parking sensors.
Advance features such as lane- departure warning system, lane- keep assist system, forward and reverse smart city brake support, driver attention alert, and adaptive LED headlights are available in both the diesel variants.
At the event, Mazda Malaysia also launched its new paint centre. Construction at the facility started last year, and it started operating on August 29 this year.
The company has invested RM87 million in the facility which includes the automating part of the body-welding process.
With these improvements, the Mazda Kulim Plant is aligned with Mazda’s “parent factories” of Ujina and Hofu in western Japan, in terms of technologies.
With the new facility, Mazda Malaysia plans to expand its export markets to the Philippines, Indonesia, Cambodia and Myanmar.
