BMW Group Malaysia, the sole distributor of BMW and MINI cars in the country, has launched the second generation MINI Countryman with a starting price of RM239,888.

“MINI has been growing steadily in the Malaysian premium segment. Last year alone, the brand contributed over 900 vehicles to our performance here as well as recorded over a 19 per cent growth in comparison to its performance in 2015.”

“In the first quarter of 2017, MINI is already tracking as the third largest brand in the Malaysian premium segment and we hope to maintain this competitiveness in the industry with the All-New MINI Countryman,” said head of MINI Malaysia Kidd Yam in a press conference after the launching ceremony.

The MINI Cooper Countryman gets a 1.5-litre turbocharged 3-cylinder engine hooked to a six speed Steptronic automatic transmission. The mill produces 136hp at 4,400 to 6,000rpm and 220 Nm of torque from 1,400 to 4,300rpm. Mini claims that it can sprint from standstill to 100kph in 9.6 seconds, with a top speed of 200kph.

As for the MINI Cooper S Countryman, this variant comes with a 2.0-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol engine that churns out 192hp at 5,000 to 6,000rpm and 280 Nm of torque from 1,350 to 4,600rpm. It is paired to an eight-speed Steptronic automatic. The Cooper S countryman can complete the century sprint in 7.4 seconds, with a top speed of 224 km/h.

The standard equipment for both variants include the MINI driving modes, run flat tyres, auto LED headlights with cornering lights, roof rails, silver colour sump guard, electronic power steering, sports leather steering wheel, dual-zone automatic air conditioning, anti-dazzle rear view mirror, picnic bench, radio MINI visual boost 6.5-inch MINI Connected infotainment system and a rear view camera.

As for the safety aspects, both variants come with the anti-lock braking system, brake assist, dynamic stability control, dynamic traction control, electronic differential lock control, breakaway engine mounts, hill hold control, isofix point and six airbags.

The MINI Cooper Countryman comes with the 18-inch light alloy wheels, Cloth Firework Carbon Black upholstery, hazy grey interior surfacing, chrome line interior and a powered tailgate.

Meanwhile, the MINI Cooper S Countryman received a 19-inch MINI Yours light alloy wheels, ALL4 bodykit with piano black bumper elements, MINI Yours piano black illuminated interior surfacing, leather cross punch in carbon black upholstery, electronic seat adjustment with memory function, John Cooper Works leather steering with paddle shifters and automatic tailgate with comfort access.

There are nine colours to choose from - Chestnut, Island Blue, British Racing Green, Chili Red, Light White, Melting Silver, Midnight Black and Moonwalk Grey. There is also an exclusive Thunder Grey colour made available only for the MINI Cooper S Countryman.

The MINI Cooper Countryman is priced at RM239,888, while the Cooper S Countryman comes with a starting price of RM269,888. Both prices are without insurance. It comes with a 4-year unlimited mileage warranty with free scheduled service.
